North Shore Athletics and Fresh Air Life have teamed up this year to offer a unique WALKFIT™ program to the North Shore Community.  The WALKFIT™ program is designed to improve upper body strength…reinforce good posture…take the pressure off lower body extremities and provide an amazing cardio workout as you power pole in urban settings…hike up Grouse or Snowshoe up Seymour.  There is something for everyone.

 

There are some amazing health benefits to the WALKFIT™ program!    With one simple activity you’ll be working 90% of the muscles in the body, including your legs, arms, back, abs, shoulders and core.  Not only will you burn 46% more calories than you would by regular walking – you’ll be doing it in a fun and social setting!

 

Keith and Jenn partnered earlier this fall and started the first ever WALKFIT™ program in the city combining the urban walking program with the run clinic.  It has been a fabulous success.  There has been an overwhelming response to this WALK for WELLNESS campaign as we are all on the road to heath and wellness together at NSA. 

 

The Urban Poles which are used for this activity are unique in design as they have no straps…a rubber based tip and a functional handle system that allow great leverage when you are poling as the drag and push motion engages your core….reinforces posture and give you a powerful workout.  So many people are recognizing the benefits from poling…from elite athletes to high school students to seniors….you need to try it to believe it…

 

POWER …. PASSION… PRIDE….  is the motto for our WALKFIT program.

 

NSA – WALKFIT™ testimonial:

 

On Tuesday evenings, the most amazing group of women are led by Jennifer Hewlett though some beautifully inviting areas of North and West Vancouver.  We have had the opportunity not only to get to know each other, but to personally grow together.  Each week Jennifer, Heather and Kathy are encouraging and enthusiastic as we trek through the streets.  We talk, laugh and share stories and the time flies by as we enjoy the sights and each others' company.  We have all been delighted to notice how our stamina has increased over the weeks we have been walking. We are challenged to scale those steeper hills and we celebrate our success when we make it to the top!  We leave at the end of the night refreshed and feeling better about ourselves and already looking forward to next time.
